Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes to Diontae Johnson as the Pittsburgh Steelers remained perfect. It wasn’t easy for them, as they had to hold off the surging Tennessee Titans late to secure a 27-24 victory on Sunday.
The contest was originally postponed when the Titans came down with the NFL’s first COVID-19 outbreak of the season weeks ago. The Titans rallied from 17 down.
Stephen Gostkowski missed from 45 yards wide right with 14 seconds left. That missed field goal sent the Steelers into a celebration and left the Titans stunned.
The Steelers are now 6-0 for their best start since 1978. That year Pittsburgh won its first seven on the way to the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh scored at least 26 points for a sixth straight game to tie a stretch in 2015 for the longest in franchise history. Pittsburgh outgained Tennessee 362-292.
On defense the Steelers held the NFL’s second-best scoring offense under 31 points for the first time since the opening week of the season.An impressive benchmark for that unit.
This week the Steelers will visit Baltimore, in a game that was rescheduled because of the Titans’ outbreak. The Titans will visit Cincinnati to test Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
