Toledo Police Department Shares “Exceptional Performance” Won by Officer Dia

American News Hard News
Toledo Police Department personnel can earn “Exceptional Performance” reports that highlight a great job done by officers during the performance of their duties. The Exceptional Performance report then goes in to the officers’ files and, with approval, the officers’ pictures, along with a description of what they did, is then posted to Toledo Police’s Social Media Accounts.
Officers McLendon, Gawrych, and Dia were to be recipients of one such Exceptional Performance report. However, Officer Dia was killed in the Line of Duty the night before Sergeant Babcock was to present him with the Exceptional Performance report.
Sgt. Babcock met Officer Dia’s wife and children at the vigil held at the Safety Building on July 6 and showed them the Exceptional Performance report. Officer Dia’s children, Younes and Maytham, signed their name on Officer Dia’s signature line on the Exceptional Performance report.
The following is the Exceptional Performance that was awarded to Officers McLendon, Gawrych, and Dia:
On June 30, Unit 319 – Officers McLendon and Gawrych – responded to a burglary alarm at the Auto Zone located at 2941 Cherry Street. The Auto Zone was found to be broken into and Unit 319 made contact with an employee who quickly accessed security video. The employee gave a description of the suspect and stated that he had stolen multiple cans of A/C Pro Charge Kits. Unit 319 then broadcast the suspect description over the police radio.
Officer Dia took to the neighborhoods surrounding the Auto Zone and located a male matching the suspect’s description. The male was also found to have numerous A/C Pro Charge Kits in his possession. Officer Dia arrested the suspect who was charged with Breaking and Entering.
