The Adrian College women’s soccer team collected its first NCAA Tournament win in program history, beating out the Wis.-Stevens Point Pointers in double overtime.

Despite the Pointers’ strength in the offensive zone, fate was on the Bulldogs’ side, as a strong UWSP shot in the 21st minute rang off the crossbar, keeping the game at zero.

Keeping the odds in its favor, Adrian played a strong defensive game, as the clock was winding down on the first half Brooke Teska made a stunning block on a free kick to keep her squad in the game.

After being held to two shots in the first half, AC was able to put quality shots on goal in the second, with the first being owned by Megan Louwers with 33 minutes remaining in regulation. Louwers was able to break away from a pair of defenders and send a shot on-goal. Her shot was collected and fed to Caroline Fleming who also had scoring intentions, before being taken down at the top of the box.

The Bulldogs put up several viable shots on-goal in the final minutes of regulation, but nonetheless, the contest went into overtime.

In the first overtime period, Adrian was more offensive, closing out the ten minutes with a its second corner of the contest, taken by Angela Davis and fed to Mya Oleksiak for a header that went wide.

Less than two minutes into the second overtime Adrian was finally able to reach the back of the net, as Makenna Mascarofed a long ball up to Fleming, who beat out her defender and sent the ball into the right 90.

With this win the Bulldogs will advance to the second round game, as they faceoff with the Washington University Bears Sunday at 1pm (CST).
