Spring Arbor University soccer turned in a dominating performance on Saturday night in its home opener, defeating Goshen College 7-0 at the Cougar Soccer Complex. It was a special night for a pair of Cougars as Ariana Stoltzfus and Lauren Marshall tallied their first collegiate goals.
Stoltzfus finished with two tallies while Marshall had one goal and two assists. Madison Marshall also registered two goals and an assist to help lead the way. After a scoreless first half, Spring Arbor scored just a minute into the second half.
Mackenzie Selvius played a ball to the back post and Stoltzfus was there to head home for her first career goal. Less than a minute later, Goshen was whistled for a handball in the box giving SAU a penalty kick opportunity.
Selvius would bury the shot giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage. The floodgates opened after that as Spring Arbor added five more goals. Stoltzfus and Madison Marshall finished with two goals apiece while Alyvia Thorne and Lauren Marshall also found the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Samantha Tracey picked up the shutout, stopping the only shot she faced on the night. Spring Arbor hosts the University of Saint Francis on Saturday, October 3rd at 7pm.
