Pause in Coverage: Twitter Suspends Direct Digital Media Accounts

Press Releases

Twitter Inc. is cracking down on use of accounts across its platform, and it has affected several of our brand accounts. Things heated up for many as Twitter began to crackdown on QAnon over the last several days.

Twitter announced it would permanently suspend accounts related to the conspiracy-theory movement. As it has suspended thousands of accounts related to the theory, it has also suspended other potential violators.

Twitter said the initial move would affect about 150,000 QAnon-related accounts. In addition the platform will be taking action against other users who are believed to have violated terms of use.

About 7,000 accounts have already been banned for breaking policy against spam and platform manipulation.

We are big fans of limiting harmful activity and the spread of misinformation on social media. Direct Digital Media, LLC and our brand accounts have worked diligently to verify all reporting we do.

We currently have seven total Twitter accounts suspended. Due to this, we will not be pushing out a large volume of content until things have been cleared up with the platform.

The San Francisco-based company said the moves will be “rolled out comprehensively.”

“As we work at scale to protect the public conversation in the face of evolving threats, we’ll continue to lead with transparency and offer more context on our efforts,” Twitter said.

In recent months, Twitter has also taken more forceful steps to rein in the spread of misinformation and conspiracy theories, and has fact-checked a number of misleading tweets by President Donald Trump.

We are saddened that several of our accounts have been suspended as a part of these moves, but understand the necessity and value of validating that users are not harmfully spreading misinformation.

We just wanted to let our fans and audience know why we will not be pushing out a large volume of content for the next few days. Thank you for following along with the Midwest Sports Network and Direct Digital Media, LLC.
