On The Move: Where Will Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford End Up?

Several NFL franchises will be very interested in acquiring Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who still has a lot to offer under center. NFL fans have wondered for years what Stafford could do outside of Detroit.

Stafford and the Detroit Lions spent a few weeks after the season considering their options and they have reportedly agreed to part ways. The Lions will begin fielding offers for their franchise quarterback.

Bidding for such an incredible talent is expected to be high. Stafford wants to go to a more complete team for a shot at a run for a title. Here are a few predictions as to where he could go for the next season.

The Indianapolis Colts

With Philip Rivers officially retired, the Colts are also in the market for a new starting quarterback. This is a team that appears to be just a quarterback away from being a legitimate contender. Rivers led the Colts to an 11-5 record this past season. Stafford knows how to spread the ball around to multiple wideouts, so he could fit right in with T.Y. Hilton and Michael Pittman.

The San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was recently asked about Garoppolo, and he didn’t sound extremely confident about his franchise quarterback. The Arizona Cardinals said that Josh Rosen was their quarterback before drafting Kyler Murray. San Frans’ man is under contract for two more years, but you can’t help but wonder what a new signal caller would do to their offense.

The New England Patriots

Former Lions head coach Matt Patricia is returning to the New England Patriots. The Patriots are again looking for a new quarterback to fill the void Tom Brady left. Stafford’s contract is affordable, and the Patriots have the no. 15 overall pick. Bellicheck would obviously be interested in a veteran signal-caller and developing a system around him that works. I previously had anticipated this as a possibility, but now it makes even more sense.

The Washington Football Team

New Washington Football Team general manager Martin Mayhew was the general manager in Detroit when Stafford was drafted with the top pick back in 2009. Washington currently has Alex Smith, who suffered a major injury and continues to struggle with them. Washington has a some talent on offense, and an elite defense. I believe Washington will be one of the teams that makes a call to Detroit.
