NFL teams from around the league are making difficult cap based decisions to open the 2021 NFL offseason. Several cap cuts have already occurred. These include JJ Watt in Houston and AJ Bouye in Denver.
The salary cap is expected to decrease from the $198.2 million mark that it hit last year. This means that front offices, general managers and head coaches are having to make some tough decisions in regards to personnel.
Minnesota Vikings: Riley Reiff
His cap number for 2021 is a whopping $14.9M and they would save over $11M by moving on.
Denver Broncos: Jurrell Casey
Moving on saves close to $12M in cap space.
Cincinnati Bengals: Geno Atkins
The team would save $9.5M in cap space by moving on from the 33-year-old veteran.
Denver Broncos: Von Miller
He missed all of last year with an ankle injury suffered before the start of the season. The Broncos could save around $18M by making the decision not to retain him.
Tennessee Titans: Malcolm Butler
The Titans can save $10.2M against the cap by releasing him.
New Orleans Saints: Thomas Morstead
Moving on from the longtime punter would save the Saints $2.5M.
Minnesota Vikings: Kyle Rudolph
Releasing Rudolph would save $5M in cap space.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Cameron Brate
Brate’s cap hit is slated to be over $6M in 2021.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyler Eifert
Moving on from Eifert would save $5M in cap space.
Las Vegas Raiders: Marcus Mariota
Mariota’s name has been thrown around a bit. His $11.35M cap hit it an excessive amount for a backup.
San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo
Moving Garoppolo would save $23.6M in cap while only leaving $2.8M in dead money.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger
Bringing back Ben on a reworked deal is what’s likely to happen, but it’s definitely not a guarantee at this point.
New Orleans Saints: Jared Cook
The Saints are in the worst cap situations in the NFL.
Detroit Lions: Jesse James
His cap number for 2021 is over $6 million and the Lions are likely to move on.

Buffalo would save more than $7 million in cap by moving him.
New York Giants: Golden Tate
The Giants would save $6M in cap my releasing Tate.
New York Giants: Nate Solder
