The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has reiterated that the league is committed to providing a robust athletic experience for all student-athletes. In recognition of the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, the MIAA Presidents’ Council has approved a predominantly conference schedule for fall sports: cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball.
MIAA conference contests will begin on September 19th to allow all member schools to ensure that steps are taken to prioritize the health and safety of student-athletes and campus communities. Each MIAA institution is currently making decisions for return-to-play protocols with the guidance of their administrative and medical staffs, along with state and local health authorities.
“Our member schools have been working diligently to put together plans to bring students back to campus and athletics are such an important part of the student experience on our campuses,” said Commissioner Penny Allen-Cook
“A schedule focused primarily on playing conference members will aid in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and provide a quality competitive season for our student-athletes,” she continued.
The 2019-20 academic year marked the 132nd consecutive year of operation for the NCAA Division III-affiliated conference. The MIAA was founded March 24th of 1888. The focus of the conference from the beginning has been on providing an outstanding competitive environment for all. Today, the MIAA is one of America’s finest NCAA Division III conferences, offering 23 sports for men and women.
My take on the NCAA at the D3 level and the pandemic. In NCAA D1 alone, 30 athletic teams have been eliminated in eight weeks. This could be a real chance for D3 to shine#CFB #College #Football #MIAA #NCAA #NCAAD3 #News #NFL #Sports #WhyD3 https://t.co/2bJpQTFd0F
