Head women’s hockey coach Shawn Skelly has announced the hiring of new assistant coach Kalie Grant. Grant is 2020 graduate from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where she studied biology and business with a minor in sports studies and exercise science. Grant was the definition of a student-athlete making Deans List every year while playing women’s hockey.
“We are so excited to have Kalie on board as our new assistant coach,” Skelly said. “She comes to Adrian after a successful playing career at St. Lawrence University where she was a two-year captain. She brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to our program along with leadership skills that will help our student-athletes grow into better people during their time at Adrian College.”
In her four-year career, Grant finished with 138 games played scoring 13 goals and racking up 31 assists. She served as alternate captain her junior year and captain during her senior season.
During her time at St. Lawrence, Grant was presented with the Andrea Blakely Scholar Athlete Award four times and was named an ACHA All-American Scholar during the 2018-19 season. Her other awards include being appointed the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team award four times, was selected as an ECAC Hockey Commissioners’ Honoree, as the program’s top scholar, and was elected a finalist for the Mandi Schwartz Student-Athlete of the Year finalist twice.
Grant’s coaching experience includes being a coach at the Can/Am Hockey School in Lake Placid, NY. During that time, she focused on improving the fundamentals of 10-16-year-old athletes.
During here time in college she spent three years on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteered with Special Olympics in 2019.
