Five members of the Spring Arbor University track and field teams secured All-American status as competition concluded at the 2021 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
Kyara Black finished as the national runner-up in the high jump while Jasmine Harper and Emily Westrick placed seventh and eighth in the mile. On the men’s side, Max Whittredge took eighth in the 800 meters and Tommee Smith grabbed seventh in the 1000 meters.
Spring Arbor sent a total of 16 athletes to compete in the national meet. In addition to the All-American performances, SAU competed in the women’s DMR, the women’s 60 meter hurdles, the men’s 4×800 and the men’s 4×400. The women’s DMR team of Sarah McEllis, Jada Kyle, Madison Vore and Emily Westrick finished 16th with a time of 13:38.21.
Sarah Maschino narrowly missed qualifying for the finals and an All-American spot in the hurdles, placing ninth overall with a time of 9.02. The men’s 4×800, made up of Trent Smith, Timothy Nelson, Tommee Smith and Max Whittredge, finished 10th in 7:55.27 and the men’s 4×400 – comprised of Zach Lamphere, Levi Conner, Zach Morse and Kyle Rummel – placed 14th in 3:30.03.
