Berry College Football Has 17 All-Conference Honorees; Tony Kunczewski Named SAA Coach of the Year

In exclusive voting by head coaches of the Southern Athletic Association, Berry College’s聽Brock Skinner聽claimed the league’s Special Teams Player of the Year honor to lead 17 Vikings on the All-SAA teams.

Head coach Tony Kunczewski was named the SAA Coach of the Year after he and his staff led the Vikings to an undefeated season and their fifth straight conference championship.

Cam Kawa, Luke Seale, Tonny Garcia and Matthew Syverson claimed All-SAA first-team offense recognition and David Galloway, Connor Cheyunski, Mark Sommerville and Devin Grier claimed All-SAA first-team defense recognition. Gavin Gray and Cade Kennemore earned All-SAA second-team offense honors with Mac Wells, Skinner, Jack Carroll, Jake Weitkamp, Jordan Wilson, Elohim Hull and Bobby Hope claiming All-SAA second-team defense honors.

Skinner, a sophomore linebacker from Hoschton, Ga., appeared in all four games this season and claimed two SAA Player of the Week honors. Recording eight tackles, Skinner also tallied two interceptions, one that he returned for a 57-yard touchdown.

Kawa, a freshman wide receiver from Marietta, Ga., led the team in receiving yards with 182 and four touchdowns. Overall, he averaged 45.5 yards per game in his first year for the Vikings.

Seale, a senior offensive lineman from Loganville, Ga., closes his career with his second All-SAA recognition. He competed in every game for Berry this season.

Garcia, a freshman offensive lineman from Kennesaw, Ga., completes his first season as a Viking with an All-SAA honor. He appeared in all four games this season.

Syverson, a sophomore kicker/punter from Rome, Ga., claimed his second All-SAA nod after an impressive outing this season. He went 4-7 on field goals, one for 47-yards, and averaged 35.13 per punt. He also dropped three punts inside the 20-yard line.

Galloway, a senior defensive lineman from Columbus, Ga., claimed his third straight All-SAA nod. He posted 14 total tackles and a sack for a loss this season.

Cheyunski, a junior from Apex, N.C., claimed his first All-SAA recognition after leading the Vikings with 33 tackles with one fumble recovery in the conference championship vs. Hendrix.

Sommerville, a senior defensive back from Lithonia, Ga., earned his third straight All-SAA nod after recording 12 tackles, six pass breakups and one forced fumble this season.

Grier, a junior defensive back from Lawrenceville, Ga., earned his second All-SAA honor. Appearing in all four games for the Vikings, he recorded 11 tackles with two interceptions.

Gray, a sophomore quarterback from Calhoun, Ga., threw for 940 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Earning his second All-SAA honor, Gray averaged 235 yards per game.

Kennemore, a junior wide receiver from South Pittsburg, Tenn., earned his second All-SAA honor after recording 155 receiving yards, averaging 38.75 yards per game.

Wells, a senior defensive lineman from Canton, Ga., claimed his third All-SAA honor. He posted 17 tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss with two quarterback hurries.

Carroll, a senior linebacker from Canton, Ga., earned his third straight All-SAA nod. He 30 tackles with 2.5 for a loss and one interception.

Weitkamp, a junior linebacker from Woodstock, Ga., posted 16 tackles with two for a loss of six yards. He also recorded a sack for a loss of three yards.

Wilson, a junior defensive back from Dallas, Ga., claimed his second All-SAA honor after recording six tackles and two pass breakups.

Hull, a sophomore defensive back from Dallas, Ga., claimed his first All-SAA nod. He posted 15 tackles, one for a loss of one yard. He also recorded two pass breakups, picked off two interceptions and had one forced fumble.

Hope, a senior kicker/punter from Atlanta, Ga., earned his first All-SAA honor after going 1-1 on field goals and averaged 34.10 per punt, dropping five punts inside the 20-yard line. He also recorded one tackle.

The Vikings closed the season 4-0 and defeated Hendrix, 21-20, to claim the SAA Conference Championship.
