The Austin Bruins and Head Coach Steve Howard have rounded out their coaching staff, announcing the hiring of Justin Fisher as the teamβs new Assistant Coach.Β 27-year-old Fisher comes to Austin after spending a season as an Assistant Coach with Adrian College. Before coaching, Fisher played five seasons for the Bulldogs and served as one of the team captains in each of his final two years.
A native of Flushing, Michigan, this isnβt Fisherβs first experience with Bruins Head Coach Steve Howard. During the 2013-14 NA3HL Season, Howard was the bench boss for the Flint Jr. Generals where Fisher played 48 games and registered 50 total points.
βItβs been 6-7 years since I coached Justin [Fisher] as a player, and Iβm excited to get to work with him again, this time as an assistant on my staff,β said Head Coach Howard
βAs a player, Justin always did things the right way, and Iβm sure his coaching style will be the same. Fish[er] has an infectious personality that our players are going to like,β continued Howard.
Fisher is the final piece to Howardβs coaching staff after adding Cory Lonke late last week to perform as the teamsβ Goaltending Coach/Assistant Coach. Fisher and Lonke replace former assistant coaches Kenny Orlando and Keegan Asmundson, both of whom departed this offseason.
Up next for the Bruins, the black-and-gold prepare for the start of the NAHL season due to begin on October 9th. Though delayed, the NAHL will still play all 60-games of a traditional regular season with the league-wide schedule expected September 1. Players report to Riverside Arena next month for training camp where Head Coach Howard and his assistant coaches will finalize the roster.
