ALMA, Mich. (MWSN) — Alma College Football will open its 2024 season ranked No. 7 in the nation, according to the D3football.com preseason poll released Wednesday. The Scots, who amassed 424 points in the poll, enter the season following a historic 12-1 campaign that saw them reach the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
The No. 7 ranking is the highest preseason designation Alma has ever carried into Week 1, marking a one-place drop from their program-best No. 6 ranking at the end of the 2023 season. This achievement also signifies the 16th consecutive poll appearance for the Scots within the top 25.
Hope College, another MIAA school, also received votes in the poll but did not break into the top 25. The Flying Dutchmen finished as runners-up to Alma in the 2023 season, with the Scots winning their matchup 35-17.
North Central (IL) leads the poll with 614 points, followed by SUNY Cortland, which eliminated Alma in the NCAA quarterfinals and ranks second. The Scots will kick off their season at home with a highly anticipated Week 1 game against No. 17 Wisconsin-River Falls, who is coming off a 7-3 season.
