Tua Tagovailoa’s career at the University of Alabama may be over after the quarterback suffered a dislocated hip during the Crimson Tide’s 38-7 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.

The injury also includes a fracture to his posterior wall. Tua Tagovailoa’s health was a major storyline ahead of the Crimson Tide’s game on Saturday, but his injured ankle ended up being the least of the team’s concerns. He will miss the remainder of the 2019 season.

Tagovailoa underwent a successful surgery on Monday in Houston, and ESPN reported that his “prognosis is excellent.” He is expected to make a full recovery.

Tua suffered the injury after landing awkwardly while being tackled by two defenders with 3 minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Tagovailoa was taken to a local hospital. Tide beat writer Cecil Hurt reported that he was then airlifted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Birmingham.

Tagovailoa was playing well to that point. At the time of his injury, he was 14 of 18 for 256 yards passing and two touchdowns. Alabama had a 35-7 lead with touchdowns on its first five possessions.
