Adrian College Has Three All-Conference, Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year for NCHA

On Wednesday afternoon, the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) unveiled its All-League Awards for NCAA men’s hockey. Adrian College men’s hockey team had a lot to celebrate as Matus Spodniak was named the NCHA Player of the Year, and head coach Adam Krug was named Coach of the Year. Additionally, three players, including Sam Ruffin and Chase Spencer, were named All-Conference.

Ruffin made the All-Conference Team for the second year in a row. He completed the season with 33 points in 23 games, including 11 goals and 22 assists. He had six goals and 15 assists during conference play, and his 41 shots contributed to his statistics. Moreover, Ruffin netted two power play goals, one shorthanded goal, and two game-winning goals.

Spencer earned one of the defensive selections on the All-Conference Team for the first time in his career. He recorded 22 points (four goals, 18 assists) over the season and had a +/- of +20 entering the Harris Cup Finals. Spencer scored three goals and 11 assists during conference play, and he blocked 15 shots, nine of which occurred in conference.

Spodniak deservedly won NCHA Player of the Year. He leads the nation in scoring with 55 points (28 goals and 27 assists) in 28 games, along with 145 shots and a +/- of +25. Among his 28 goals, 11 came on the power play (second in the country), and he recorded four game-winning goals, two overtime goals, and four hat tricks. In conference play, Spodniak scored 14 goals with 19 assists and had 10 blocked shots.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to take on the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with the winner advancing to the Frozen Four this weekend. Standing room tickets are currently on sale for $8. Per NCAA rule, Adrian must reserve 25% of seats for UW-Stevens Point which will be reserved until Wednesday night at 5:00 PM EST. At 9:00 AM EST. on Thursday morning, all unsold seats will go on sale to the public. Reserved seating is priced at $12.
