Adrian College’s kicker Cooper West and Hope College’s quarterback Mason Opple were the two honorees.
Opple, a senior accounted for four touchdowns (three pass, one run) during Hope’s 51-0, MIAA-opening win at then-No. 24 Trine. Opple capped the first possession of the game with a 3-yard touchdown and finished with a game-high 102 yards rushing, accouting for 315 yards of total offense while sitting out the fourth quarter. Opple completed 18 of 29 passes, including touchdown passes of 8, 7 and 20 yards.

West went 3-for-3 on field goals of 30, 20 and 18 yards, but it was West’s final kick that was the game-winner with three seconds left in regulation to lift Adrian to a 30-27 victory over Kalamazoo. That marks the second consecutive game that Adrian has won with West’s leg and on the last play of the game (West booted a 26-yarder against Wisconsin Lutheran in double overtime, 32-29, on Sept. 21).
