For the Eastern Michigan University football enthusiasts, there’s big news in the air. After almost a decade, Eastern Michigan will be playing three of its four games in October at Rynearson Stadium. This announcement came as part of the complete 2023 football schedule unveiled by the Mid-American Conference in March.
Eastern Michigan, the reigning MAC West Division co-champions, has planned six matches at “The Factory” in Rynearson Stadium. October promises to be an action-packed month for fans, as EMU defends its home turf for all but one game — a level of home-field action not seen since 2012.
However, the schedule later turns in favor of away games. The Eagles are set to play two of their final three matches on the road. These transitions signal the commencement of #MACtion, the globally recognized midweek match phenomenon. In just 24 days, EMU will have three games with variable rest days in between.
Interestingly, EMU will wrap up its regular season prior to Thanksgiving. Now, for those eager to support the team in style, season tickets are already up for grabs. Notably, the Ultimate Fan Season Ticket Plan offers a premium seating experience on the 50-yard line, complete with a wide chairback and armrests, and VIP season parking – all for just $150.
Kicking off the season, EMU will clash with Howard on home ground on September 1. After this, they’ll challenge the Pinstripe Bowl Champion, Minnesota, on September 9. Fans will recall the last match with Howard in 2013, but it’s the first time EMU will face off against the Golden Gophers. With their recent track record against the Big Ten Conference, hopes are high in Ypsilanti.
Other notable fixtures include games against Massachusetts, Jacksonville State, Central Michigan, Ball State, and Kent State. Each game carries its own history and promises to be a thrilling experience for fans.
The season also sees a shift to nationally televised games for the last three matches. The face-off against Toledo on November 8 is particularly awaited, considering the nail-biting finish in 2022 which saw Toledo progress to the MAC’s title game.
The concluding home game will be against Akron on November 14, followed by the regular season finale against Buffalo on November 21.
The postseason will see the 27th MAC Football Championship taking place in Detroit, with the exact date pending.
With EMU’s triumphant victory in the 2022 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and other significant achievements in recent times, the excitement for the upcoming season is palpable. The team’s first spring practice is slated for March 13, leading up to the annual spring football game on April 14.

As EMU prepares for another season, the anticipation and pride among the Eagles’ community are stronger than ever. This year promises thrilling games, new challenges, and unforgettable moments on the gray turf.
