As the 2023 college football season prepares to kick off, Lindy’s Sports has ranked Ferris State University Bulldogs, the two-time reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, as the nation’s premier team. This announcement was featured in Lindy’s annual college football preview magazine, which recently graced the newsstands nationwide.

Recognized as a leading voice in football, Lindy’s Sports ranked the top 25 D2 teams. The top five spots were claimed by Ferris State Bulldogs (#1), Grand Valley State (#2), Colorado School of Mines (#3), Pittsburg State (#4), and Northwest Missouri State (#5). Notably, during last year’s season, the Bulldogs trounced GVSU, Mines, and Pittsburg State in their path to clinch the national title.

Among the top 10 teams, five hail from Super Region Three, with Ferris State receiving the highest ranking. The list also includes GVSU, Pittsburg State, Northwest Missouri State, and Ouachita Baptist at ninth. Additionally, the Bulldogs and the Lakers are the two GLIAC teams featured in the top 25.

In individual accolades, Lindy’s Sports has selected Bulldog’s sophomore offensive lineman, Bryce George, for the Preseason All-America Second Team.

Mark your calendars, as the magazine has highlighted the Bulldogs’ Anchor-Bone Classic with GVSU on Oct. 14 in Allendale as a game to watch this fall. Ferris State’s schedule is set to clash with two top-10 ranked teams: GVSU and Ashland, and the FCS squad, Montana.

Reflecting on the previous season, FSU stood victorious against five of Lindy’s Top 25 teams, including Grand Valley State, Mines, Pittsburg State, West Florida, and Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bulldogs are boasting an enviable record of 28-1 over the past two seasons and have participated in the NCAA D2 Playoffs for eight consecutive years.

As FSU gears up for its 114th season, hopes are high for the Bulldogs to make their ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA D2 Playoffs. Their journey has been impressive, reaching the NCAA Playoffs final eight in the last six seasons and making five national semifinal appearances.

The 2023 journey starts at home for Ferris State on Thursday, Aug. 31, where they’ll face Mercyhurst at Top Taggart Field.
