Brian Laundrie went missing after he returned home alone from a trip with his fiancé Gabby Petito. Petito’s remains were found in Wyoming last month. Since then there has been a nationwide manhunt for Laundrie.
The Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino, in an interview with ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ today, said that Chris and Roberta Laundrie do not know how Brian died.
“I was informed from law enforcement yesterday that perhaps midday today we may have some more information,” he said. “But as of right now, we know as much as you do so.”
A comparison of dental records confirmed Laundrie’s identity, according to the FBI. The Laundries themselves helped lead authorities to the remains, according to reporting from ABC News.
The pair visited the park on Wednesday with law enforcement officers. While there they searched an area where they have for weeks insisted their son liked to hike. According to the AP, this is where his remains were found.
“They are grieving the loss of their beautiful daughter,” said Richard Stafford, a lawyer and spokesman for Petito’s parents. “Gabby’s family will make a statement at the appropriate time and when they are emotionally ready.”
Water levels were ‘significantly lower’ this week than they were during Chris Laundrie’s October 7th visit to the same area with investigators. ABC News reported that because of this more ground was visible.
Fox News reports that numerous criminal profilers and advocates for domestic abuse survivors have speculated that the heated display in public led to an argument between the couple that eventually led to Petito’s death.
