MARYVILLE, Tenn. (MWSN) – The Maryville College Scots are gearing up for another exciting season of football as they look to build on their impressive 8-2 record from 2023. With the start of the 2024 campaign just around the corner, the Scots are preparing for a challenging schedule that will test their mettle and determination.
The 2024 season opens on September 7, with Maryville hosting Sewanee at Honaker Field at Lloyd Thornton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 P.M. The Scots will be looking to replicate their success from last year’s matchup against Sewanee, where they secured a decisive 28-8 victory on the road.
Maryville’s second game of the season takes them to Danville, Ky., to face Centre College on September 14 at 7:00 P.M. Last season, the Scots defeated Centre 34-23 at home, a game that set the tone for their strong performance throughout the year.
The Scots’ first USA South Athletic Conference (USAS) game will be an away contest against Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Va., on September 21 at 1:00 P.M. The following week, they return home for Parents & Family Weekend to host Brevard on September 28 at 1:00 P.M. Last year’s triple-overtime thriller against Brevard ended in a narrow 35-37 loss, a result the Scots will be eager to overturn.
October 5 sees Maryville traveling to LaGrange, Ga., for another USAS matchup, followed by a home game against Huntingdon on October 19 at 1:00 P.M. The Scots will also celebrate Homecoming on October 26 when they host Methodist at 1:00 P.M.
The final stretch of the season includes away games at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss., on November 2 at noon and Greensboro in Greensboro, N.C., on November 9 at noon. The regular season concludes at home against North Carolina Wesleyan on November 16 at noon, marking Senior Day for the Scots.
Last year’s campaign was marked by significant successes, including a four-game winning streak to close out the season. The Scots were undefeated at home with a 5-0 record and finished with a solid 5-2 record in conference play.
The Maryville Scots are poised for another thrilling season, with high hopes and a strong roster ready to make their mark. Fans can expect an exciting series of games as the Scots aim to continue their winning ways and contend for the conference title.
