Jenkins allegedly was also intoxicated at that time. Investigators found Martin’s cell phone on the seventh floor, still recording footage from before the incident took place. Police told local media the couple were arguing in that video. In the middle of the clip, Martin told Jenkins repeatedly to stop “punching her in the face.”
Martin then dropped her camera. Investigators say you can hear her body hit the ground. Martin was pronounced dead at the hospital that evening. Authorities have charged Jenkins on one count of domestic assault.
Martin’s death has yet to be named a homicide. Martin and Jenkins were newlyweds. They also worked together at the State of Illinois’ Department of Corrections. Jenkins is currently being held on bond. $100,000 cash-only.
