From Clinton, Michigan to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mathew Sexton refuses to be done with football. I’ve watched Sexton play for years now. To be quite honest, I remember being surprised when he went to play at Eastern Michigan University. I couldn’t remember him making a splash for his high school in Lenawee County. It didn’t take long for me to discover why the Eagles wanted him to join them.
Cool Flashback moment from the MAC conference yesterday. @PrestonHutch15 went deep to @MathewSexton2 with 36 seconds remaining to lift @EMUFB to a 34-27 victory over Western Michigan@EMUAthletics #MACtion #EagleUp #CFB #Michigan #Football #MAC pic.twitter.com/Y2q5B34B48

In college at EMU, Sexton picked up 100 receptions for 1,355 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. In addition to his contributions to the passing game, he also returned 21 kickoffs for 353 yards and two punts for 77 yards as well as a touchdown. Statistics that aren’t necessarily overwhelming, but impressive nonetheless. He had a few incredible plays, which are embedded in the tweets within this article.

Mathew made the decision to perform his Pro Day at Michigan State University. A great move. Sexton has blazing 4.4 speed and gained experience playing both outside and in the slot in college. That 40 yard dash time got eyes on him. He was worked out by two NFL franchises, but it was Pittsburgh decided to give him a shot. The Steelers have a reputation for finding players that were overlooked and grooming them.
Mathew Sexton gives the @steelers a spark. 34-yard return!

Sexton is looking to stay on the roster, and it looks like he may have locked himself into a spot. His 36-yard punt return early in the third quarter jump-started the Pittsburgh Steelers. To see a rookie come out and smack Dallas and the Cowboys with a return like that is a great feeling. You know Mike Tomlin and his staff watch for plays like that. Here’s wishing Mat luck. We’ll be watching.
