COLUMBUS, Ohio (MWSN) — Chattanooga FC goalkeeper Jean Antoine made history on Tuesday night by becoming the club’s first player to compete during MLS All-Star Week. Antoine was among four goalkeepers selected to participate in the MLS NEXT Pro’s Goalie Wars competition, a part of the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge.

Antoine faced Southeast Division rival Chituru Odunze of Crown Legacy FC in the first semifinal, losing 1-0 after overtime. The two keepers were closely matched throughout the intense 90-second contest. Antoine nearly scored with his final attempt, but the ball hit the inside of the post and went out of play.

Reflecting on his experience at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Antoine shared his thoughts with ChattanoogaFC.com:

“To be honest, I had a blast. I’m sad I didn’t score a goal, but it was fun. I had amazing support from everyone, including the coaching staff who made it out here and everyone watching back home. I really had a great time. Everything was moving fast, and I tried to slow it down, but we were huffing and puffing. I hit both posts! The ball did not want to go in, but it was fun. ‘C’ [Chituru Odunze] did amazing, and he moves to the final. I’ll be watching and rooting for him.”

Odunze went on to win the challenge, successfully defending Crown Legacy’s title in the event. The camaraderie among the goalkeepers was evident throughout the two days in Columbus.

“Since I landed yesterday and met them, it’s been amazing. They treated me with respect and kindness, and that’s all you can ask for. Win or lose, they’re still the same guys,” said Antoine.

Chattanooga FC Director of Goalkeeping Juan Carlos Garzon expressed pride in Antoine’s performance:

“I’m very proud of Jean. It was a huge opportunity for him to show his talent and to have fun. That’s the beautiful thing about this game. It was wonderful to be part of history at this event. We are very happy and thankful for all the support from ownership and the front office.”

Antoine and Chattanooga FC will now prepare for a home match against Orlando City B on Saturday, July 27, at 7:00 p.m. ET. Tickets are on sale now.
