The National Player of the Year Award in NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey, known as the Laura Hurd Award, has announced its finalists for the 2022-23 season, according to the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). One of the 11 finalists is Sophie Goldberg, the goaltender for Adrian College’s NCAA women’s hockey team.

Goldberg is the sole goaltender among the finalists and has played in all 24 games this season for the Bulldogs. She has achieved a 20-4 record with 11 shutouts and a remarkable .83 goals against average, which is the highest in the nation. Her 11 shutouts rank second in the country, and her save percentage of .955 ranks fourth. Goldberg has also gained the sixth-highest winning percentage as a goaltender at .833.

In addition to her impressive season, Goldberg was named NCHA All-Conference for the 2022-23 season and was also a member of the Slaats Cup All-Tournament Team and the Slaats Cup MVP.

The Laura Hurd Award winner is set to be revealed at the NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Semifinals this weekend at Amherst College.
