Adrian College hockey player Connor Smith has signed a professional contract with the Binghamton Black Bears of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL). Smith, a native of Pinckney, Michigan, played four years with the MD1 Bulldogs and tallied over 100 goals and 160 points in 110 regular season and playoff games. He also provided five goals and seven assists in ten ACHA National Championship Tournament games for the Bulldogs.
The Binghamton Black Bears are currently sitting in fourth place in the league standings with six games left in the regular season. Smith will make his pro debut this coming Friday, March 31st, and join the Black Bears on their run to the playoffs.
Smith was a graduating senior of Adrian and studied Criminal Justice at Adrian College. He was part of the MD1 Bulldog team that defeated Minot State University in the ACHA National Championship game back in 2021, marking the second national title for the Adrian MD1 program. Unfortunately, Smith and the Bulldogs fell short of another national title this spring with a 1-0 loss in the championship game just last week in Boston.
Smith is following in the footsteps of several former MD1 Bulldogs who have had a taste of professional hockey after their collegiate playing days concluded.
