Four players scored multiple goals as Adrian College repeated as NCHA Peters Cup champions with an 11-1 victory over visiting Trine. Freshman Ryan Butler, junior Trevor Coykendall, Bellant and Ruffin scored two goals apiece.
Butler, Coykendall and Ruffin also recording an assist. Shields also had three points on a goal and two assists. Junior Zach Goberis (7-for-11) and Ruffin (7-for-13) led Adrian in the face-off circle.
Other Bulldogs having a multi-point game were senior defenseman Joshua Owings (3A), Goberis (2A), Luciani (4A) and Moe (1G, 1A). Sophomore Nic Tallarico made 21 saves to pick up his third win in four decisions in goal.
Bryan Vandelinder and Aryan Batra also found the scoresheet with an assist apiece. Jared Domin led Trine with three shots on goal. Hallford also led all centermen with 13 wins and 22 draws, while William Casey went 7-for-10 on face-offs.
Adrian moves to 13-0 all-time against Trine. The Bulldogs have won 11 consecutive games, outscoring opponents 64-15 during the streak. Combined with Adrian’s 10-goal victory and Concordia-Wisconsin’s 3-0 loss at Marian tonight, the Bulldogs are the top overall seed in the upcoming conference tournament and Peters Cup outright champions.
Moe takes over the team’s goal-scoring lead with 14 among 26 points–both personal bests. Luciani has Adrian-leading totals of 19 assists and 32 points, with his four assists tonight being a personal record.
Prior to the game, junior team captain Matt Eller who is graduating in three years and Owings were honored on Senior Night for their contributions on and off the ice. Eller has 2+23=25 scoring totals in 72 career games while Owings is 2+16=18 in 68.
Adrian owns 12 conference regular-season titles since the program was founded for the 2007-08 season.
With a 10-3 win at Trine last night, Adrian has posted back-to-back games of 10 goals or more for the first time since Lake Forest (10-2, 11-5) on Nov. 20-21, 2009.
