The Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders were able to overcome Adrian College’s 17 game win streak on Saturday. Garrett Gintoli scored an unassisted goal for the eventual game-winner.

Rock Boynton made 38 saves as MSOE was able to hang on for a 3-1 win over Adrian in non-conference men’s hockey action on Saturday. Junior Andrew Bellant tallied Adrian’s goal on the power play in the third period.

Adrian’s Sam Ruffin and freshman Dawson Ellis were credited with the assists on the play. Ruffin also went 10-for-20 on face-offs. Senior Cameron Gray had 29 saves, including six stops during a successful 5-minute penalty-kill.

Gray kept the Bulldogs within striking distance.  Junior Trevor Coykendall led Adrian in the face-off circle by winning nine of 16 attempts.  Jeff Makowski and Matt Hanewall also scored for the Raiders.

Hanewall went 10-for-15 on face-offs. Gintoli also finished 8-for-13 on face-offs and tied for the game-high with five shots on goal. Both impressive stat lines for the Raider skaters.

Adrian still leads the all-time series lead over MSOE 38-7-4, including a 22-5-4 mark at home. The loss snapped the Bulldogs’ 17-game winning streak against NCAA Division III opponents dating back to last season.

This contest between NCHA members was designated a non-conference game. Adrian’s NCHA schedule is tapped to get under way next month at MSOE.

Adrian-MSOE will meet again next weekend on Sunday, Jan. 31, in an addition to the home schedule here at Adrian.
