Before he was an NHL superstar, Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug went undrafted and played NCAA hockey at Michigan State University. The Livonia, Michigan native kept it local when selecting a school.

When he arrived at MSU in the fall of 2009, Krug was initially slotted as a fifth or sixth defenseman on the roster. By then end of his time as a Spartan, he was among collegiate hockey’s most sought-after free agents.

Krug signed with the Boston Bruins in 2012.

Torey Krug has now played in over 500 career games, scoring 67 goals and notching 270 assists. He scored his first NHL goal during his first Stanley Cup playoff game in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals against the New York Rangers.

Krug was the first Bruins defenseman to score in his playoff debut since Glen Wesley in 1988. He was also named to the NHL all-rookie team during his first year in the league. He was the top scoring rookie defenseman in the league.
